The Best Budget Xperia? The Sony Xperia Tipo Vs. The Sony Xperia U

Sony’s line of Xperia phones has been around for quite a few years now, and is generally a sleek looking and well performing range of mobile devices. Sony rightfully have a good reputation as a mobile manufacturer, making reliable and hard wearing devices. The Xperia line is still under production, with new models being added all the time. But it doesn’t just contain top of the line devices. There are several decent and affordable Xperia models offered by most mobile service providers. If you’re not looking to spend hundreds on a new phone, then these mid-range Xperias may be exactly what you’re looking for. But which one should you get? We took the Sony Xperia U and put it to the test against the Sony Xperia Tipo to see exactly how they compare. These phones are the ones most commonly offered as mid-range devices by mobile service companies. So, if you want to know which one to go for, then keep reading and we’ll tell you which is the better bargain…

Why You Want a Sony Xperia U…

The Xperia U is a great little device, that holds a lot of advantages over the Xperia Tipo. Firstly, it’s the faster phone. It comes running a 1000 MHz processor, rather than the slower 800 MHz processor on the Tipo, making it more powerful, snappier and more responsive. It also has the better screen. The display on the Xperia U comes with two and a half times higher resolution and sixty per cent more PPI (pixels per inch). These things combined make for a picture that is brighter, sharper and more colourful than that on the Xperia Tipo. The built-in camera is also higher resolution, being a 5 MP device as opposed to the 3.2 MP camera on the Tipo. This means that photos taken on the Xperia U are better quality and have more fine detail. You get around ten per cent more talk time per battery charge on the Xperia U, meaning you need to charge your battery less often, which is always a good thing. You also get more internal storage. The Xperia U comes with 4 GB of internal memory, as compared to 2.9 GB on the Tipo. That means that you can store around forty per cent more music, photos and data on the Xperia X. Finally, it comes in around ten per cent thinner than the Tipo.

What the Sony Xperia Tipo Can Do for You…

The Tipo only came out tops in a couple of categories. First off, you get faster maximum data speeds, which means you can get quicker downloading and faster opening of web pages. The Tipo runs Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, rather than the older 2.3 Gingerbread system on the Xperia U. In general, a newer operating system version means a little more speed and more stability, with less chance of your device freezing or crashing. Finally, the Tipo comes in around ten per cent lighter than the Xperia U.

Which One is Better?

The better buy is definitely the Sony Xperia U. It’s faster, has a better screen, a better camera and more internal memory. All of these add up to make the Xperia U a great deal and a powerful yet affordable mobile device.
