Cheap Or Expensive – The Pantech Discover Vs. The IPhone 5
When you’re in the market for a new phone finances have to be considered. With top of the range mobiles going for hundreds of pounds, getting a new cell phone can be a big investment. Sometimes it really is worth paying that extra cash to get something really great, but that isn’t always the case. There are plenty of great devices that come with lots of features and that don’t cost the earth. Today we’re looking at the Pantech Discover, a great little phone that retails for a very reasonable price, and the iPhone 5, and awesome phone that sells for a lot more. Is it worth paying all that extra cash? We put these two hand sets to the test to find out exactly how they compare and what their differences are. Thinking about trying to save some money? Or splashing out and paying a little more? Find out whether Pantech or i Phone contracts are for you.
What the Pantech Discover Can Do for You…
The Pantech has a couple of things going for it. It is the faster phone, running a 1500 MHz processor rather than the slower 1300 MHz processor on the iPhone, making it more powerful, snappier and more responsive. It also gets faster maximum data speeds, which generally means quicker downloading and faster opening of web pages. The Discover has the larger screen, measuring in at 4.8 inches over the iPhone’s four inches. Plus, you get a better camera. The Pantech has a 12.6 MP in built cam versus the 8 MP camera on the iPhone, meaning that pictures taken with the Discover are better quality and have more fine detail than those taken with the iPhone.
What the iPhone 5 Does Well…
The iPhone does have a few advantages of its own though. Depending on which model you go for and how much you spend, you might have more storage space. The Pantech comes with 16 GB of memory, the iPhone with anywhere from 8 GB to 64 GB, so you might have a lot more space to put music, videos, photos and games on your device. Despite the screen being smaller, it is higher quality. The display on the iPhone has double the screen resolution as well as eighty per cent more PPI (pixels per inch), resulting in a picture that’s brighter, sharper and cleaner than that on the Discover. Finally, the iPhone does come in smaller, thinner and lighter; but given the huge difference in screen size, that’s not really a surprise.
Should I Spend More?
This is a tough one. Yes, the iPhone 5 is a better phone than the Pantech Discover. However, is it really worth the large price difference? Frankly, we think not. The larger screen, extra power and better camera on the Pantech really persuade us that it’s a pretty great phone. We recommend saving the extra cash and going with the Discover over the iPhone, we just think it’s a much better bargain.
