Difficult Decisions – The Sony Xperia TL Vs. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Buying a new cell phone is never an easy decision. There are so many excellent devices on the market nowadays that choosing between them can be a nightmare. Usually, going with a big brand name is a pretty sensible idea. With a brand name you get a guarantee of good quality and dependability, though you might end up paying just a little more. Sony and Samsung are two of the biggest names on the mobile device market, and they both have a great reputation for producing excellent handsets.
Sony’s Xperia range is a sexy, sleek looking line of phones that are fast and laden with features. They do tend to be a little pricey, though.
Samsung’s Galaxy line also has a great reputation, their Galaxy S III is widely considered by experts to be the best device currently on the market.
So we decided to do a little test to see which of these ranges comes out better. The Sony Xperia TL is a little more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but they’re both Android phones, running the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. But which is the better buy for you? We ran them head to head to find out exactly how they compare and what their differences are. Is it worth spending a little extra cash on the Xperia?
Whichever network you are looking to connect to, Orange, O2 or T Mobile, phones like these are better bought on contract because of the high outright purchase price.
What we found is two phones that are extremely similar. So if you’re choosing between these two models, keep reading to find out which one carries our seal of approval…
What the Sony Xperia TL Has…
The Xperia does have a couple of things going for it. It is the faster phone. It comes running a 1500 MHz processor, rather than the slower 1200 MHz processor on the Nexus, making it more powerful, snappier and more responsive. If you’re a keen cell phone photographer, then the Xperia might be for you, as it has by far the better in built camera. The Xperia comes with a massive 13 MP camera, as opposed to the 5 MP cam on the Nexus. This means that photos taken with the Xperia are noticeably higher quality and much more finely detailed than those taken on the Nexus. But those are the only two advantages of the Xperia…
What the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Does Better…
The Nexus has just one advantage that lies in its screen. The Galaxy has a Super AMOLED screen, rather than the older TFT LCD screen on the Xperia. In general, AMOLED screens are brighter and more vivid than LCD screens.
And the Better Deal is?
These phones really are almost identical. And it comes down to what you want to use your phone for. If taking photos is really important to you, then yes, spend the extra cash and get the Sony Xperia TL. If, on the other hand, you don’t care too much about photos, then save your money and go for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. But in the end, they are both great phones, and we wouldn’t be ashamed to own either of them.
