A Gingerbread Battle – The Huawei Ascend G300 Vs. The Sony Xperia U
Android’s 2.3 Gingerbread operating system is one of the most popular phone operating systems around. It’s not the newest version of the system, by far, but it is still used on a variety of decently priced mid-range mobile phones. If you’re looking for affordable cell phone options, then an Android Gingerbread phone is probably one of your best options. However, a lot depends on the device that you run your operating system on. Today we’re looking at two Gingerbread phones, the Huawei Ascend G300 and the Sony Xperia U. They’re both widely available from most mobile service providers, and they both retail at around the same reasonable price. So which one is better? We put them to the test to find out exactly how they compared and which one was a better bargain. If you want to know which of these two devices we recommend, then keep reading to see how they stack up.
The Best Parts of the Sony Xperia U…
The Sony Xperia U definitely has a few advantages over the Huawei model. It does have the better screen. The display on the Xperia has ten per cent higher resolution as well as twenty per cent more PPI (pixels per inch). This results in the picture quality on the Sony being brighter, more vivid and crisper than that of the Huawei. You get more internal storage on the Xperia too, which comes with 4 GB of internal memory as opposed to just 2.4 GB on the Ascend. That means you can store seventy per cent more videos, music, games and photos on your device. The battery life on the Sony is far better. The Xperia averages ten per cent more talk time (six hours rather than five hours on the Ascend) and thirty per cent more stand by time (twenty days versus fifteen days) per battery charge cycle, which means you have to charge your phone significantly less often. The in-built camera on the Xperia shoots video in high resolution HD, whilst the camera on the Ascend doesn’t. Finally, the Xperia comes in around ten per cent smaller and twenty per cent lighter than the Huawei, making it that much more portable.
The Best Parts of the Huawei Ascend G300…
There isn’t much that the Ascend does better than the Xperia. It’s around ten per cent thinner, but since the Xperia is smaller and lighter that doesn’t make too much of a difference. There is one big difference though. Although the Huawei doesn’t have as good a screen as the Xperia, it does have a larger display. The screen on the Ascend measures in at four inches, compared to just three and a half inches on the Xperia. When you’re reading web pages or emails a bigger screen is definitely better. But that’s really the Ascend’s only advantage.
Which One’s Better?
The Sony Xperia U is definitely a better buy than the Huawei Ascend G300. We do like the bigger screen on the Huawei, but it really doesn’t make up for the better display quality, battery life and bigger internal storage on the Xperia. Our recommendation goes to the Sony phone.
