HOT Apple Vs. Samsung – What’s The Best PAYG Deal?

As costs of mobile phone contracts are on the rise, many people are once again turning to PAYG deals to get savings. Without the hassle of signing a contract a PAYG phone means that you own your hand set out right, and simply pay for credit when and as you need it. For many, this is an ideal solution. It makes phones easy to budget for, since you only have the amount of credit that you’ve loaded onto the phone you can’t get any nasty surprises in your monthly bill.

However, one downside of doing PAYG is that it can be both difficult and expensive to get top of the range mobiles. A PAYG iPhone 5, for example, is going to cost you a pretty penny, as will a Samsung Galaxy S III. However, if you’re willing to lower your sights a little and go for a slightly older model, then there are some great deals to be had. A PAYG iPhone 4s, or Samsung Galaxy S II will save you a ton when compared to buying the newer models. But is it a better deal to go iPhone or Android? We took a look at the PAYG 3g offers from some of the UK’s major carriers to see who comes out tops…

Vodafone…

Vodafone offers both these models at pretty competitive prices. An iPhone 4S will cost you around £425, and the Samsung Galaxy S II will set you back just £250. They come with a SIM card that can be topped up with credit. Calls will cost you 25p per minute, texts go for 12p. Not bad.

T-Mobile…

A new iPhone 4S goes for £409.99 with T-Mobile, a Samsung for £300. With your SIM card you get a choice of PAYG plans. Topping up your credit with £10 gives you that much credit, plus a choice of unlimited free texts, 100 free calling minutes, or 70 free international minutes. Another fiver of credit will get you unlimited data for the month. As far as PAYG plans go, T-Mobile has a good one.

Orange…

With Orange an iPhone 4S is going to cost you £409.99, the Galaxy around £320. Their PAYG calling rewards are quite special though… As long as you top up your phone monthly with credit, you get to choose an “Animal” which gives you special rewards for recharging your phone. The Monkey plan gets you free music and text messaging, the Dolphin is free internet and texts, the Canary is free calls and texts to any network, the Raccoon is low cost calls and texts, and the Camel gives you free international calling minutes. They also have a “Ready 60” deal, which for the price of £60 gives you £30 off the price of your phone, £10 credit a month for the next six months, as well as an assortment of special numbers, low rate days and times and the like. Orange seems to be the place to go for PAYG plans…
