Well Known Isn’t Always Better – The HTC Windows 8S Vs. The Huawei Ascend P1 S

It can be all too easy to buy a cell phone simply based on its brand name. After all, we all know that Samsung and Apple make great phones, right? But that doesn’t always mean that you make a great decision every time you buy one of their phones. HTC is a fairly well regarded phone manufacturer, having released several great devices over the last few years. The might not be quite as well regarded as Samsung yet, but they are building up a solid reputation. Huawei on the other hand aren’t particularly well known at all. In fact the only thing most people know about Huawei phones is that they tend to be pretty cheap. Cheap doesn’t always mean bad though. In this surprising test we took the HTC Windows 8S phone and directly compared it to Huawei’s Ascend P1 S. And shockingly there really was no competition. The Huawei blew the HTC away. Plus, it’s actually a cheaper device with most mobile service providers plans. Keep reading to find out just why the Huawei is such a great phone…

The Huawei Ascend P1 S and What it Can Do for You…

First off, the Huawei is simply faster. It runs a 1500 MHz processor as compared to the 1000 MHz processor on the HTC, making it more powerful, snappier and more responsive. It also has double the RAM, which helps with responsiveness and also makes the phone better at multi-tasking, which is a good thing because as an Android phone, the Ascend can run multiple applications at the same time (speaking on Skype and surfing the web, for example). The screen is bigger, measuring in at 4.3 inches over the HTC’s four inches. Not only that, but it has thirty per cent higher screen resolution and ten per cent more PPI (pixels per inch). This results in a display that’s crisper, cleaner and brighter than that of the HTC. The built-in camera is also better. It’s an 8 MP cam, rather than the 5 MP one on the HTC, meaning you get better quality and more finely detailed photos. Plus it shoots video in full HD. All of this and the Huawei still comes in T around thirty per cent smaller than the HTC. Not bad at all.

The HTC Windows 8S and What it Can Do for You…

There really are only two reasons to consider the 8S. The first is that it’s slightly lighter, but only by around ten per cent. The second is because of its internal storage. The 8S comes with 16 GB of internal memory, compared to only 4 GB on the Huawei. This means that you can store four times more music, data and photos on your device, which is a pretty big difference…

The Huawei Wins Out…

We do like the extra internal storage on the 8S, but in the end, the Huawei Ascend P1 S is just a better device. It’s faster, with a better screen and a better camera, and these are things that we think are important in a phone. So don’t choose your next phone by brand, there might just be a better phone out there for you. And it might be made by Huawei…
